Hi, my name is Dan Draper and welcome to Lost in
Hospitality!

About me

“The quality of your life is determined by the questions you ask yourself.” – Tony Robbins

I asked.

And this Blog is the result.

I am a German who has been living in London for a decade now. Ever since I came here, I have been working in hospitality. I did the usual progression: I started as a runner, became a waiter, started working as a bartender, a barista, a butler,

a host, and in the end, I was a restaurant manager in the West End. Now, I am on my Plan B career after giving up hospitality. I’m sharing my strategies to grow my online business. To be fair, I have not yet worked as a coach, a motivator or a public speaker, but I have the mindset,

the expertise, and the passion to do this job. I know I will thrive in this field. In the beginning, it will be a bit tough, but I am confident results will follow and together, we can create a platform that is ready for an industry that is already changing dramatically! I didn’t start this blog because I have attained great knowledge and wisdom, nor do I feel qualified to preach. It is simply the blog I wish existed at a critical turning point in my own life when I, like everyone else eventually does, was called to answer the most critical question a person can ask themselves in life: Who do you want to be? What path do you need to take to get there? Answer these questions for yourself!

Working for a catering agency and from home gave me the freedom and opportunity I was looking for. I am a talkative person, so whenever I meet someone new, I start a conversation. People who work in hospitality like to complain and moan about a hundred different things. Obviously, I am familiar with all these complaints, but even if I give them a solution for their problem, they are still not happy, because deep down, they are not happy with themselves and with the choices they made. A lot of people end up in jobs that make them unhappy, unsatisfied, and depressed. They are just floating around. Along the way, I’ve learned that you can be very successful with making money online, but you can also be very unhappy because your emotional state is more important than money.

Do you want to change your job?

Do you live paycheck to paycheck?

Are you mentally and physically exhausted?

If you answered yes to two out of the three above questions, you definitely need to change something. Start today!

Why me?

I started Lost in Hospitality in the beginning of 2019 to help others in their lives through self-development. This includes health, fitness, mindset and financial freedom. I had a simple goal: to share the lessons I’ve been learning. This includes the struggles tHospitalityo set up a business that can provide passive income. I don’t have to know all the answers, but I can use the internet to share my experience and what I’ve learned along the way. The problems I had, or still have, are most likely similar to ones others are experiencing. I would love for other people to benefit from my experiences. If I help one person to save money and time in the process, then I will consider this blog a success!

What do I have to do?

Just imagine you are playing basketball, and someone offers you a shot for 1 million dollars! Here’s the tricky part: the shot will be from the middle of the court and it will happen in a year. Would you rather train every day and prepare yourself for this one shot every chance you can? You would! This should apply to other things in life as well! But mostly, we just focus on small, quick wins.

Is there a shortcut? Can you make me rich quickly?

No. You don’t start as a bartender straight away; you must make your way up and first be a barback or Self Developmentrunner. You need to learn how to cut limes properly before you can make a proper Mojito. That same principle goes for online marketing and generating passive income. As a hospitality worker, you have all the skills to succeed in digital marketing, but you must do the thing you don’t want to do. This is how you get started strong. People always ask how to do it because they are looking for easy answers and shortcuts, but there aren’t any!

Millionaires make up 1% of the earth’s population. This 1% is doing something else that the other 99% is not doing. If you do exactly like everyone else is doing, you will have the same results as everyone else, but I am pretty sure your goal is something else.

What can I offer?

I offer an online guide on how to get out of the minimum-wage sector. Hospitality is a dying industry. I will teach the community how to overcome their anxieties and help them to start a life on their terms. We need to change the industry. I can only hug a tree, but together, we can save a forest. Maybe this blog will not change the whole world, but maybe it will change someone’s world—maybe even yours!

How does it work?

First of all, you have to understand you need to fix your body and mind first. No Netflix and Xbox anymore. Start exercising. Treat this as a job. This isn’t a new website that wants to teach you how to do a “dodgy side hustle.” I have a different approach.

So, my goal (and I know it’s a big goal) is to change the industry and the environment of hospitality. It can be a great job if it is fair! And, I’d like to start with you!

Yes, you really can win at work, succeed in life, and build the life you want. All it takes is the intention and willingness to change. If you’ll provide the first, I will provide the second.

Let’s get started!

Finally, I want you to read my favourite Story, it means a lot to me:

The Starfish

Once upon a time, there was an old woman who used to go to the ocean to do some reading. She had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before she began her work. It's low tight and its morning, she was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with stranded starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.

Off in the distance, the old woman noticed a small girl approaching. As the girl walked, she paused every so often and as she grew closer, the woman could see that she was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. The girl came closer still and the woman, curios now, called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young girl paused, looked up, and replied “I am throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old woman replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The girl bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to this one!”

You might not be the change, the entire world needs, but at least you can change a part of it, for someone. Lost in Hospitality stands for this.

Thanks for stopping by. Until the next time, remember: You’re closer than you think. And now enjoy the Content….

To your success,

Dan Draper
